Sanandaj, formerly called Senneh, is the capital of Kurdistan Province in north-western Iran. Predominantly inhabited by Kurds, the city is famous for crafting some of the highest quality Kurdish tribal wool rugs. The city's weaving tradition dates back centuries, with Sanandaj's rugs gaining recognition in the antique market since the early nineteenth century. These rugs are celebrated globally as exquisite examples of Persian woven artistry.
