It is considered one of the holiest cities in the country, as it is home to the tomb of the eighth Imam. Each year, more than 10 million pilgrims visit this sacred site, filling the city with activity.

Mashad is also renowned for its extensive carpet production, offering a wide range of qualities. The wool from the Khorasan region, where Mashad is located, is among the finest in Iran, giving the carpets a particularly soft texture. Common colors include deep red, blue, and khaki. These carpets typically feature intricate floral patterns framing a central medallion and are often produced in large sizes.
